UltimateBet heeft bekend gemaakt dat zij Joe Sebok hebben gecontracteerd als speler voor Team UltimateBet.

Joe Sebok zal in live toernooien behangen worden met badges van UltimateBet en zo de naam van zijn sponsor uitdragen. Hier blijft het echter niet bij want Joe Sebok zal eveneens als consultant in dienst zijn van UltimateBet: 'Media & Operations Consultant'. Hij zal een adviserende rol hebben op het gebied van media en marketing met als doel de spelers weer dichterbij de online pokerroom te brengen.

"He will not only serve as a pro player representing the brand, but more importantly will be instrumental in helping us create a poker site for and by poker players. His commitment to the brand was invaluable as he worked closely with me to help begin to bring closure on the details surrounding the cheating investigation from last year. Joe Sebok heeft de afgelopen jaren hard gewerkt om zijn website PokerRoad naar grote hoogte te stuwen en dat is gelukt. De website host veel blogs van grote namen uit het pokercircuit zoals Doyle Brunson, Steve Sung, Jeff Madsen, Paul Wasicka en vele anderen. Naast radio en televisie is de site vooral populair vanwege 'Life of Ivey'. Iemand loopt met een camera achter Phil Ivey aan om zo een inzicht te geven in het leven van Ivey. Er zijn video's van Bobby's Room, maar ook een privé sessie craps in een casino waarbij het bedrag per worp menig bankroll overstijgt.

Natuurlijk hangt rond UltimateBet nog altijd het superuser schandaal en één van de opdrachten van Sebok is de goede naam rond UltimateBet te herstellen. Joe Sebok heeft UltimateBet zo ver gekregen om alle accountnamen, maar ook de echte namen van de spelers openbaar te maken die profiteerden van dit schandaal. Joe Sebok: "The first order of business with my position at Ub has been to help aid in the release of not only ALL of the hand histories from the super-user scandal, but also the accounts that were used to perpetuate the scandal itself and the actual physical names of those individuals who we believe to have been directly involved in disparate ways with the actual cheating." Dit zou opnieuw veel stof doen opwaaien in de pokerwereld.

In zijn blog gaat hij dieper in op het verloop van de onderhandelingen met UltimateBet. In eerste instantie wees hij resoluut een aanbod af dat Annie Duke hem deed. Toen echter bleek dat zij bereid waren om een aantal zaken conform zijn wensen aan te passen heeft hij vaak gesproken met Paul Leggett. Het werd duidelijk dat hij binnen de organisatie duidelijk inspraak had over het te voeren beleid en dat hij altijd 100% vrijuit kon spreken over de situatie bij UltimateBet.

In zijn blog zegt hij: "With all of that said, I honestly feel comfortable working with the Ub leadership as it stands today, and I believe resolutely that there is a commitment to security and integrity within the organization. I will still work vigilantly to make sure that all of the facts continue to come out regarding the past scandal as well, so I don't see my position there as simply moving forward."

UltimateBet en AbsolutePoker zijn direkt na het schandaal overgestapt naar volledig nieuwe software en moet hard werken om de spelers weer terug te krijgen naar de pokerroom. In totaal hebben zij voor $22 miljoen uitgekeerd aan benadeelde spelers. Als hoofdschuldige is voormalige WSOP Main Event winnaar Russel Hamilton aangewezen. Er waren echter 31 spelers bij het schandaal betrokken.

Joe Sebok is er van overtuigd dat het allemaal weer de goede kant op zal gaan met UltimateBet. Hij sluit de aankondiging af met: "Here is to a new, reformed, and improved Ub in the future. It is looking bright from here on..."

Joe Sebok, de schoonzoon van Barry Greenstein, kan zelf ook een aardig potje kaarten: hij won de afgelopen vier jaar $1.8 miljoen in live toernooien. Andere bekende spelers uit Team UltimateBet zijn Annie Duke en Phil Hellmuth.
