PokerStars strijdt al jaren om het pokerspel volledig zuiver gespeeld te laten worden. Zo mag sinds enige tijd het programma Sharkscope al niet meer gebruikt worden. Het nieuws artikel daarover kan je hier lezen.

PokerStars gaat nu nog een stap verder en heeft haar software verder ontwikkeld om datamining te voorkomen.

Datamining is het verzamelen van gegevens over andere spelers terwijl je niet aan het spelen bent. Het is toegestaan om als je zelf aan het spelen bent gegevens te verzamelen over je direkte tegenstanders middels bijvoorbeeld PokerTracker of Holdem Manager. Het is echter niet toegestaan om deze programma's mee te laten draaien op tafels waaraan je niet zelf deelneemt.

Om het dataminen nu nog moeilijker te maken heeft PokerStars de software zo aangepast dat je in de lobby van een sit & go toernooi alleen de spelers kan zien als je zelf deelneemt aan de sit & go. Dit noemen zij 'Restricted Lobby'.

PokerStars over deze aanpassing: "Please note that in our efforts to prevent datamining, we have restricted the lobbies of many types of SNG tournament. All of the draw and mixed game Sit Go's are now restricted, as are 90 and 180-player NL Hold'em Sit & Go's. 'Restricted Lobby' means that once the tournament begins, the list of entrants and finishing positions of each player are only shown if you participated in the event. If you wish to follow the tournament, you can go directly to the tables, or use the 'Find a Player' feature to find a specific person. In a very near future, this feature will be expanded to the rest of the tournaments."

Deze aanpassing heeft dus waarschijnlijk grote gevolgen voor sites als PokerDB en Sharkscope.

Als toevoeging geeft stars aan dat MTT's voorlopig buiten schot blijven: "This measure to prevent data mining, will eventually be expanded to the majority of the Sit & Go tournaments."
