Peter Eastgate won twee awards bij de PokerStars Scandinavian Poker Awards 2009. Ieder jaar voorafgaand aan de European Poker Tour in Kopenhagen worden deze awards uitgereikt.

Peter ging naar huis met zowel de Best Performance als de Rookie of the Year Award, wat op zich geen bevreemding wekt.

"Winning something like the Main Event, when they have these award shows, it kind of goes along with it," aldus Peter Eastgate. "There's no bigger event, so there's really no bigger performance over the year that can qualify to beat my performance."

Toen hij het woord richtte tot de geachte aanwezigen maakte hij nog een grapje over het feit dat hij nu moet zorgen dat hij het geld kan behouden. Dat lijkt hem aan de pokertafels vooralsnog niet goed af te gaan. "I've had a bad run playing online; I'm kind of losing a lot," zegt hij. "But that's what usually happens to guys who make a big score in a tournament: they run bad in other games."

Na zijn winst in de World Series of Poker ging hij online $100-$200 en $200-400 spelen. Nu zegt hij daarover dat hij waarschijnlijk weer een paar limieten moet gaan zakken: "I tried to play the highest stakes there is online, but unfortunately I couldn't beat those guys."

Hij blijkt een verstandig man te zijn: "I didn't lose that many buy-ins, but on the other hand I'm not really prepared to risk two, three or nine million dollars just to see if I can beat those guys. It doesn't make sense. So I am admitting that those guys are better than me. I have a negative equity playing in those games, so I am just going to take it down in stakes to where I can beat the competition."

De award voor Best Live Player ging naar Patrik Antonius en zijn landgenoot Ilari 'Ziigmund' Sahamies werd tot Best Online Player verkozen. Best Female Player was voor Magdalena In De Betou, die ietwat ongelukkig was door te struikelen op het podium, wat een lachsalvo opleverde in de zaal.
