Thuy Doan is afgelopen weekend overleden na een strijd van twee jaar tegen kanker. In 2009 liet zij weten dat bij haar de diagnose kanker was gesteld en via haar blog op PokerRoad hield zij haar volgers op de hoogte van de ontwikkelingen.

De prognoses waren vanaf het begin al niet goed. Zo schreef de in Vietnam geboren Amerikaanse in haar blog: "Based on the doctor's news there was a chance I wouldn't be alive in three years. In the coldness and loneliness of my hospital room I broke down a few times. There are so many things I want to do with my life. It's not death itself that breaks my heart but loss of potential to do great things. I thought to myself that I would give up everything I owned for just five healthy years in order to accomplish a few of them."

Zij was geliefd in de pokerwereld en aansprekende pokerspelers lieten als blijk van steun hun hoofd kaal scheren in het Bellagio. Onder hen Tom 'durrrr' Dwan, Eli Elezra, ElkY, Sorel Mizzi en Barry Greenstein. Andrew Robl organiseerden met anderen een charity event om haar bij te staan in de kosten voor de behandelingen.

Later schreef zij hierover: "I miss my friends like crazy and would bet my last good leg that they're some of the most amazing people in the poker community... I feel humbled and grateful for this. What did I ever do to deserve such good friends?"

Thuy Doan werd slechts 25 jaar.
