Phil Hellmuth heeft voor het eerst sinds zijn vertrek bij UB.com gesproken over zijn vertrek, hij deed dit in een interview met Cardplayer Magazine.

De geruchten over een mogelijk vertrek gingen al langer doordat Phil de laatste weken zonder logo van UB.com aan diverse toernooien meedeed. In het interview zegt Hellmuth dat zijn vertrek puur om zakelijke redenen is.

"It was honestly a joint decision. It was a business related decision for me, and I think it was the same for them. It's pretty simple really. Annie and I happened to leave at the same time, and people may not read this as a coincidence, but if you ask her she'll confirm that it was."

Hellmuth is dus nu een 'vrij man' en dat maakt hem uiterst aantrekkelijk voor diverse pokersites, want een ding weet je zeker als je Hellmuth tekent, publiciteit genoeg!

"Certainly I'll be talking to a lot of sites, whether it's PokerStars, Full Tilt or Bodog, whatever, and there's going to be a deal out there that makes the most sense to me," zegt Hellmuth.
"I'm not just speaking financially, because it's really important that I also have a good fit with the brand as well. As I continue my discussions with the various sites, I think it will be really interesting to see where I fit in. The nice thing is that my agent's phone has been ringing off the hook since the rumors started in November. It's nice to wanted, and I'm lucky enough to be wanted."

"There's obviously the two big guys at the head of the list in PokerStars and Full Tilt, but I'm not counting anyone out. Also, let's not forget some of the other possibilities. If the law changes, a company like Zynga (Zynga is de grootste gratis poker aanbieder op Facebook, red.) is suddenly sitting on a $5 billion poker site. That would obviously put me in a great situation to represent something like that. At this point, we're taking calls from everyone, and I'm not counting anyone out."

Opvallend is een recente tweet van Hellmuth: "AMAZING 24 hours for me! Multiple GREAT THINGS, but cannot Tweet about it yet...1 cool thing: going to week long VIP parties at Superbowl!"

Niks raars tot nu toe, maar als je weet dat PokerStars vorig jaar een VIP Party gaf tijdens de Superbowl met onder andere een optreden van rapper Nelly....Zou Hellmuth dan de tweede grote naam zijn in zeer korte tijd die voor PokerStars tekent?

Phil Hellmuth stond sinds 2001 onder contract bij UB.com, voorheen Ultimate Bet. Hij won in die periode $7,2 miljoen aan toernooiwinsten, 5 van zijn 11 WSOP bracelets en maakte meer dan 15 WSOP cashes.
