Afgelopen zaterdag stond er op Nederpoker al een bericht over Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Chau "La Key U" Giang en John Juanda die in een private Highstakes game speelden tegen rijken Chinezen in Macau. In het weekend dat volgde hebben de heren doorgespeeld en Tom Dwan is de grootste winnaar geworden. Matt Savage opnieuw in het 2+2 topic:

"The latest hearsay is the Durrrr is now 1.7 million USD winner and that Ivey has gotten back to even. I think if they continue to win they WILL NOT be invited back IMO."

De stakes zijn $10.000 voor de small blind en $20.000 voor de big blind. Absurde stakes natuurlijk maar het gaat hier om Hong Kong dollars en de HK$ is ongeveer $0.13 waard. Maar dat maakt de stakes niet minder interessant, $650/$1,300, deepstacked tegen een groep rijke en goklustige Chinezen. Het is een zogenaamde private game maar de groep Chinezen besloot de game eenmalig open te zetten voor gasten tijdens de Asian Poker Tour.

Naar het schijnt zijn de stakes gisteren ook nog eens verdubbeld, $1300/$2600 US$.

Don't often post as myself, but Matt sent me a link. Thought I would provide some clarity and yes I play in the game on and off. Its best described as a semi private game.

These "businessmen" are generally involved in the gaming industry in some form, casino junkets, sports betting etc and instead of losing tens of millions playing bacarrat every year discovered poker 2 years ago and have taken to it. Some have become very, very good (and got some excellent coaching), some are still hopeless.

They like action and thats why people like Tom Dwan they find very fun to play against. They do not like nitty pros and have been known to change a game from a 10k / 20k (HKD) game to a 10/20k with 20k ante to force the pros to play. With some of the guys from a sportsbetting background, private insurance side bets are a source of great amusement (and relief to some of the smaller players when involved in a big pot). They also prefer to play against people bringing their own money rather than a pro who has been staked by 15 different people.

Iets verder op in het 2+2 topic vertel Tom Hall dat ook Ted Forrest en Johnny Chan een stoel aan de pokertafel heeft weten te bemachtigen: "Ted Forrest has turned up and is playing one of the 2 games, there are 2 big games playing 10k/20k and a 5k/10k. Phil apparently up large now"

 Update 11:00, terwijl ik dit artikel aan het schrijven met post een collega van Tom Hall de laatste update met de tussenstand van vandaag:

The "Poker King" Poker room Chip Update as provided by Winfred 5 min ago for today's session is Phil up HK$15m (~$2 miljoen), Tom up HK$4m ~$260.000), Table regulars up HK$2m ('$130.000), Chau up HK$300k, Johnny Chan down HK$800k, John Juanda down HK$1.5m (but up big for the week overall and has left town for a trip), 2 Beijing visitors down HK$10m each.

Currently main game is 4 handed with Phil, Tom and 2 regulars playing HK$10/20k. Second game features Jeff Lisandro, Ted Forrest and others playing either 2k/4k or 5k/10k

Meer nieuws over deze highstakes cash game zal ongetwijfeld snel volgen. Foto's van de game's zijn er niet echt omdat het maken er van verboden is. Toch wist iemand stiekem een foto te maken!
